Soft drinks sector delivers 14.6% added sugars reduction between 2015-2019

UNESDA Soft Drinks Europe has announced that the sector reduced added sugars by 14.6 % between 2015-2019. It is the only sector to have committed to the EU added sugars reduction target of 10% by 2020 as laid out in the Added Sugars Annex. The latest research – conducted by third party auditors GlobalData – confirms that the sector has met and outperformed the 10% target ahead of time.

The reduction is proof that the industry’s voluntary efforts to reduce sugar across the EU are delivering results. The sector accelerated its actions in response to changing consumer preferences and the expectations of public health stakeholders.

UNESDA Soft Drinks Europe is committed to creating healthier and more sustainable food environments. It is determined to support consumers in managing their intake of added sugars from soft drinks by ensuring that the healthier choice becomes the easy choice.
