Unesda welcomes two new members
The Maltese Beverage Producers Association and the Croatian Chamber of Economy bring the total number of member associations of Unesda to 25
Unesda, representing the European soft drinks sector, announced that the Maltese Beverage Producers Association and the Croatian Chamber of Economy have become its new members. This brings the total number of Unesda’s national associations to 25.
The Maltese soft drinks sector was of 54million litres in 2021 and creates more than 450 direct jobs.
The Croatian beverage sector supports more than 5,000 jobs and generated a turnover of €111m in 2021.
Welcoming both members, Ian Ellington, President of Unesda and Senior Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer for PepsiCo in Europe, declared: ‘’I am very pleased to see this expansion in Unesda’s membership and to welcome our two new members – the Maltese Beverage Producers Association and the Croatian Chamber of Economy – to our European family. They represent relevant local businesses with a significant economic role and they add value to our European network. We very much look forward to their strong engagement and support in helping us ensure an effective policy environment that enables our sector to prosper and offer fully circular packaging and healthier beverage choices.’’
Commenting on the new membership, Maria Micallef, President of The Maltese Beverage Producers Association and Chief Executive Officer of GSD Marketing Ltd., the official bottler and distributor for The Coca-Cola Company in Malta, said: ‘’We are delighted to become a member of Unesda and provide insight into the Maltese soft drinks sector and regulatory landscape. We are looking forward to building a close partnership with Unesda and the other members to drive forward our sector’s priorities.’’
Valentina Šimić, Independent Advisor of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, stated: ‘’It is a great honour to join Unesda. We are convinced that our local experience will add value to Unesda’s work. Our membership will also allow us to strengthen our activities and exchange knowledge with our industry colleagues. We are eager to support Unesda and drive our sector’s actions at national level.’’
